Scream it from the rooftops! We want all students to say, “I AM AN AUTHOR!” Come explore how one sixth-grade teacher is using diverse middle-grade mentor texts to teach writer’s craft moves and deliver grammar instruction. This talk will feature an interactive slide presentation, handouts, student examples of mentor text writing at work, and a live sequence of a mentor text lesson in action. You will walk away feeling like this session not only promotes reading in the middle-grade classroom, but it shows how kids can “unlock” the books they read to be writers as well.
